Diversity of avifauna in Sanyasykarau regions of Lathuvadi, Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract
Birds are the only feathered creatures in the
world. They are winged, bipedal, warm blooded, and egg laying vertebrate
animal. The avifaunal diversity in the ecosystem, act as a pollinators, seed
dispersal agent, scavenger and predators of insect pest and also important
indicator to evaluate different habitats both qualitatively and quantitatively.
The present investigation was conducted in Sanyasikaradu regions of Namakkal
district, Tamil Nadu during September-2022 to February 2023. A total of 35
species were observed and recorded belong 8 orders of 24 families. All the
birds recorded in the study area were categorized into 7 ecological groups
based on their feeding habits insectivorous 14 species (34%), omnivorous 10
species (28%), carnivorous 4 species (14%), granivorous 3 species (10%),
piscivorous 2 species (7%), frugivorous and nectivorous one specie (3%). Among
the 35 bird species 27 for resident, 5 for local migrant and 3 for migrant.
Based on the abundance out of 3 species 9 were very common, 16 were common, 7
were occasional and 3 rare species observed during study period.
