Microbial indicators of soil health in agricultural systems
Authors
Giovanni F Ricci
Abstract
Soil health is a critical factor in sustainable agricultural systems,
influencing crop productivity, environmental quality, and ecosystem resilience.
Microbial communities within the soil play a fundamental role in maintaining
soil health through their involvement in nutrient cycling, organic matter
decomposition, and disease suppression. This review paper explores the various
microbial indicators used to assess soil health, their roles in agricultural
systems, and the methodologies for their evaluation. It also discusses the
implications of these indicators for sustainable agriculture and future research
directions.
